ABOUT US

Welcome. This blog is my attempt to share a lifelong passion—wine—with a wider audience. I’m Evalyn Fleming, a sommelier and wine consultant, and for as long as I can remember, I’ve been captivated by the stories whispered within each bottle. My aim here is to share those stories, the knowledge I’ve gained, and a healthy dose of enthusiasm.

My background is in writing, and I bring that same dedication to accuracy and storytelling to my exploration of wine. I’ve seen firsthand how powerful narratives can illuminate even the most technical subjects, and wine is certainly full of technicalities. I’m not interested in creating a stuffy, academic treatise on wine, however. Instead, I want to bring the joy and intrigue of wine to life in an accessible and engaging way.

I’ve spent years exploring every facet of the wine world, from the exclusive perks of private wine clubs to the subtle art of navigating a bustling wine shop. The sheer diversity within the industry is what keeps me coming back for more. I’ve learned firsthand the etiquette that leads to the best recommendations, the thrill of uncovering a hidden gem at a small family winery, and the breathtaking beauty of a vineyard in full bloom.

Organic winemaking is a particular interest. The commitment to sustainable practices that many growers demonstrate is nothing short of inspiring. The wines themselves speak volumes about the passion and dedication that goes into their creation. I’m particularly interested in sharing the stories of those committed to this approach to winemaking.

And then, there’s the day-to-day experience of being a winemaker. I’ve had the privilege of spending time with countless producers, sharing their experiences, anxieties, and the pure, unadulterated joy of watching a vintage come to fruition. Their stories are fascinating accounts of hard work, artistry, and an unwavering connection to the land and its bounty. My hope is to bring those stories to you, allowing you to connect with the people behind the wines you love.

I invite you to explore, learn, and perhaps even discover your new favorite wine—or perhaps, a whole new perspective on the wines you already love.
